  • Question: Long time lurker with Prescription question

I have been on Andro since November 2009 I feel much better I went from 150 to about 450 on the Test. My question is this, Is it normal to have to go see the doctor every month to get a prescription for the Andro?

He only bills my ins every other month but he tells me he can't put this particular script through the mail. Any info would be appreciated.

I am on 4 pumps a day whick comes out to about 2 containers a month.

    Thanks in advance.

A: Yes, it's normal for the Doc to only prescribe the Androgel for one or two months at a time. My doctor only lets me have three refills, when the fourth comes around, the pharmacy needs to get a new approval from the doctor. It has to do with the type of meds that androgel is....something aking to a steroid. I'm sure someone much more knowledgable than me can clarify that for you and I.
I use the small gel packets...easier to travel with and to measure.
    good luck

A: I can get 5 refills at my local pharmacy but only 3 if I do it by mail. Something about it being a controlled substance.

A: es, Testosterone is a controlled substance and its been abused pretty badly by "sports" people for example. The idea is that using super normal levels of Testosterone build up muscles to the "Body Builder" levels.

Anyone old enough to remember "wrestlers" from the 60s (Pre abuse) and now can see how totally insane this has become. What sadly has happened is that we have a whole generation of Baseball and football stats that (In my opinion) arentotally valueless because the "Super Stars" hitting more home runs then anyone in history (for example) only did so under the influence of all sorts of drugs and dope.

Anyway, those of us who use this for Medical reasons need to be mindful that this is a controlled substance and not to give access to it to anyone else.

And btw IF you ever hear of anyone selling "testosterone" over the counter (In the US, Canada, UK) its almost for certain illegal. Even attempting to buy it is also an issue.

A: When you start on HRT they need to do labs frequently (WE HOPE!) to get you adjusted right. One your getting good blood levels and your symptoms start to ease you will probably get a 90 days prescription with a number of refills. You will probably be getting labs 2 weeks after every change then once your looking ok this changes to 6 months (With DREs) then it goes to a yearly physical, DRE / labs. Use these frequent visits to be descriptive on how your feeling. Ask your SO for her take on how your doing as well. Some of the changes come on rather subtle and people in your family may see them more clearly they you do.
